Well a week into owning a strat affinity yes ive have the tuning problems!!
I could hear the ping in the nut which means the string isnt moving properly in the nut! So i rang promenade music and they said fetch it in – they had a little go at filing the placky holes down a bit and put some nut sauce in!! yes nut sauce is for tight nuts!!! ha
Anyway it didnt work – So i looked on the internet to see what strings it came with stock and it comes out of the factory with .9 gauge strings on. Luckily enough i found a brand new set of strings in my box of musical goodies! .9’s!! Bashed them on and give them a stretch and hey presto its been in tune for two days and its had some serious hendrix style abuse!
I must admit these are a bit thin sounding ill try some .10 gauge as im hoping they were .11’s i took off which were to fat for the nut which was causing the slipping and gripping.
If you still have tuning problems after trying the factory gauge take the plastic back cover off and tighten the screws right in which will pull your wangy bar right into the body – you may have to adjust your action after this like but its works!!
Two other things that may help a pre slotted graptech nut and some locking tuners set you back about fifty quid but if you got one of the good one like me and not a lemon its probably worth the fifty quid!! Either that and get a mexican?? I picked one up the other day and it was a sack of shit!! the squier felt better!! honestly!!!
I tried a stratocaster affinity in promenade music and was amazed with "the real" strat sound
Its badged squier and its made by fender – lets says its the bottom line
I can actually say it sounds better than an american one I tried last week!!!!!
I have one problem with tuning going out a little bit so i called gary at promenade music
And he suggested we try a product called nut sauce! so we are going to file down the notches in the nut and then apply nut sauce!!!!
Lovely build though large 70’s style headstock – one ply scratch plate – the alder body is finished in a lovely sunburst. I have had it fairly cranked up and not had much noise from the single coil pickups. No noise from the pots or 5 way switch. One thing i did notice is there is no tone control on the bridge pickup?? What the hell for around the £200 quid mark they are a very good buy!!
All i can say is try a few don’t buy a lemon!! Its like a USA stratocaster try it before you buy it – try acoustically and also through a similiar amp to what you use.
Ive been using a telecaster pro tone squier for months now and had no bother and it sounds wicked so thought sod it get a stratocaster squier to match!!
Get a root console
su – and root password
Type apt-get install amarok libgpod3-nogtk
This will install amarok and the libgpod packages
Plug in your ipod and mount it
In a console type
sudo lsusb -v | grep -i Serial
now usually on the top line you get a number that starts with 000
now write down that number or copy it and change directory your ipod mine is
inside there change directory to
inside there you need to edit Sysinfo
so nano Sysinfo
and enter the lines
But change the part that starts with 000 to your id that you got from the terminal
Thats it you can read and write to the ipod now!!
To get it to sync with amarok
Go into settings configure amarok go to devices and you will see your ipod listed
Change the pull down box to ipod and apply and your ready to go!!!
Pick the album you want in amarok to transfer to the ipod
Right click and send to device – now click the transfer button
And watch the tune fly across!!!
Now eject your ipod (make sure you have closed the terminal!)
And enjoy your music!!
128I own a thinline squier telecaster – The protone version – Pics are available in my photos like.
Well i had been gigging it for around 6 months and realised its always on the bridge pickup as it sounds crap on the top pickup – So i basically did what they did in the sixties and seventies took out the neck pickup and ripped the chrome cover off and removed the wax on top of the pickup. I put the pickup in and took half an hour adjusting it to mix in with the bridge pickup before putting the scratch plate back on! Anyway it sounds wicked now ….
But im still not happy with the neck pick up so i did some poking around and the answer is some seymour duncans or the best option sounds like some genuine fender texas special telecaster pickups which ive researched and they sound the plums! You can pick a new set up on ebay for around £100 which aint bad.
But don’t stop there! do a search on ebay for telecaster 4 way
And you will see some kits which you can get from the states which adds a extra notch on your standard pickup selector to add another noise to your collection!!and it also has a extra capacitor which stops treble loss when you turn volume down which is a big problem with single coil pickups!
If your feeling brave you could install a 5 way switch which you can also buy from ebay for around a £10!! here is a diagram which looks easy – im going for this option with the texas special pickups !! Ill let you know how it goes… now were is the soldering iron!! 😐 5 tone tele link
As you see the alembics up 4 sale!!
I thought id buy a new jaydee bass and with the change a used 1973 fender stratocaster
Now a couple of years ago a new jaydee bass would have been say £1800 and fender stratocaster 1970’s job about £600
Well ive been on the blower 2day to jaydee
A new series one jaydee with inlays £2250
A new reissue 70’s strat is £1300 or £1300 for a vintage used 70’s strat!!
So ive decided ill buy a used 80’s jaydee and a used 70’s strat
Which should = £2300
Nice exchange for mark king signature alembic!! or is it 😐
Did morecambe hotel saturday last night
Bloody good turn out!! She defo has sorted the place out
I played around three months ago with natural thing and it was quite dead
3 months later she has it booming!! and the place does food at good prices!!
We went on at 8.45 and finished up around 11.45
The land lady bought us a few pints what a cracker!!
Had two miserable buggers in one was a old fart of a man so i told him to cheer up over the mic and asked someone to buy him a tequila!!!
The other was some spoilt young girl who wasn’t open minded to music and just wanted bloody green day!!! Kids nowadays ey!!!!
You cant please em all!!!!! but apart from that a bloody stormer!!
Lookin forward to going back!!!!!!!!
Just wish i wouldnt have partied after!! bloody rough today!!!
I got a protone telecaster about six months ago been gigging it but i noticed i was always on the bridge pickup
Wonder why? well try it on the neck pick up !! proper muddy > bloody awful!!
So i ripped of the old gold cover like they did in the old days!!
Its give the guitar a new lease of life!! it sounds wicked now!!!!
So if you have a protone get your screwdriver and pliers out and whip it off!!
There is a bit off wax on it just scrape it off > i accually think it looks better
And it acctually sounds like a tele now!!!!
