Made a big change when it comes to technology I didn’t think id jump back in bed with apple but I had a feeling it could happen.. I been doing a lot of shows up and down the coast and was building two solutions..
One portable for small shows that doesn’t have lots of wires and to much setting up.
One larger rig used for show automation including the music, lights, spinning light heads and smoke and vocal / guitar effect automation plus additional projection to screen.
I bought a iRig and a blue board only to realise that this doesn’t work with the note 8 I recently bought… so then i sent it back and opted for the iOS version and thought well a iPad mini will cut all this.. now the iPad mini in mind I kind of knew this could be dangerous. It lead to me dropping all the computers / laptops running antergos which is damn good plus dumped all the tablets and just wen clean through apple the best thing I did was dumping the Samsung frontier watch as I never got it to do anything even Samsung pay was useless! I also dumped the cheap android boxes and went Apple TV 4K but have to say its the best move ive ever made a real investment. Now the only thing I don’t have to do is fix the computers so I spend my time reading magazines and books on them and creating videos and photos for my shows! Plus I started looking at a few games and a controller to play them.
Have to say its expensive jumping in bed with apple but the old saying is true you get what you pay for so sorry you won’t be seeing no more linux blogs I don’t have the time now for tinkering and fixing a building boxes. Sorry if this disappoints but there is to much in life to be doing this. Bye linux is been a passion but now you are in bed. Sweet dreams!!
I recently acquired a imac G5 with a broken screen from some kind person of the internet so decided to give it a new lease of life!
i got a new screen of ebay and installed the screen easily. (around 15 mins to install)
I wanted to install ubuntu as thats what i tend to use so looked for the latest ubuntu install, i discovered they have stop support for PPC macs but still have versions available using lubuntu, which is a cut down version which would be fine due to the age of the mac.. so i proceeded to the latest 14.0.4 install. The install wouldnt complete so i tried the version before which failed so i tried the video-ofonly in the option of the install which looked promising as the install worked! but after the install i couldnt get past the greater! so i tried various window managers to no prevail. Before giving up I remembered I had used debian on my macbook so i downloaded the latest debian dvd and blew it to a disk.
The install went flawlessly and i ended up with a slick gnome dektop which is very nice to use and look at. I installed a zone minder server and connected my cameras with no problems.
Now the machine runs fine nice and slick now the only problem is because of the processing power which its handling fine the fans are running fast to keep the machine cool. There is no way with moddding the case to fix this so i have a thermaltake mobile II on the way ill update this post later…
want to fresh reinstall your mac from a usb key
if your updating your mac from the itunes store download diskmakerx from here http://liondiskmaker.com/
start the download of from itunes and plug in at least a 8 gig usb key
when the download finishes it will want to start the install, before you start the install run disk maker and it will find the install image downloaded for maverick and then proceed to find the usb key and confirm you want to use it, when you select this is fine you wait around 10 / 15 mins and you have a bootable usb key with maverick ready to go.
Pop into you mac / imac and turn on with the alt key selected which will offer you the choice to boot from the usb !! nice fresh install 🙂
Handy bit of kit i got the mountain lion install file on my desktop and a 8 gig USB stick in the socket of the mac, load up the app and click create a boot disk it see’s the image file on my desktop and asks if i want to use that then asks me if i want to write it to the USB key inserted. It takes 20/30 mins to create the boot usb key, then use just reboot keeping your finger on the alt key ready for the alternate boot. select the usb key from the icons and install a shiny new version of mountain lion! simples 🙂
I already had a copy of this game before i bought it on the app store which i created myself for free using a wine wrapper which still works fine to this day.. i even see you can buy it of steam.. i bought it straight away for my iPhone and iPad which was good at around £3, i noticed the cloud load and save option which is great and gives more dimension to the game being able to work through the game on multiple devices and start and stop were you finish off using cloud save or load. So she i noticed on the app store version for mac book the date was december the 6, assumed it was updated like the iPad, iPhone being released the same time with the cloud save load option. So i forked out the £6 and it doesn’t work. Very disappointed, one of my all time favourites … this would have been elite but i guess they won’t add it. I can only say this is half cut and corner cutting and stupid for a feature would have brought this game back to life and improved mac gaming 100%
quick fox for licence problems with mac osx – i just remove the licence and test from then on…
from a terminal :
rm -rf /Users/Shared/Microsoft/RDC\ Crucial\ Server\ Information/RDCGlobal\ Data
sudo rm -rf /Users/Shared/Microsoft/RDC\ Crucial\ Server\ Information/*
try again – no need to change the machine name like the dreaded windows 😉
Loving the iPad 2 Right we’re my pint!!!…
I love Thunderbird. It is both flexible, powerful and user-friendly. But, on Mac OS X, it has the nasty habit of saving a copy of all the opened attachments on the desktop leaving a messy trail… Can something be done about that ? You bet !
I said Thunderbird was flexible, didn’t I ? It is so flexible that it will let you edit tons of hidden parameters if you so wish. Those parameters can be found in the “Thunderbird” menu under the “Preferences” item. In the preferences window go to “Advanced”, then “General” and then “Configuration editor”. Be sure to read the warning that will appear and don’t do anything stupid…
Now for the grand finale, in the
about:config window that appeared, control-click (or right-click) anywhere and select “New” and “Boolean value” from the contextual menu that appeared. Then, paste in the following key name
true when prompted. Voilà! Now, all those temporary files will be cleaned up when you exit Thunderbird.
This has been tested to work in Thunderbird 3 (but I believe it also works in Thunderbird 2).

Well a month into my lion install on my macbook and i have to say yes there has been a few problems were some programs are buggy with it but they all seem to be catching up and releasing the updates not apples fault i guess more down do the people who create the applications have to be fast and update to the new standards.
I had to downgrade one macbook to snow leopard to make auto cad work right but now auto cad 2012 is available which is built to support lion! Plus we are waiting for announcement for solid works for mac osx !! hopefully next year……
I have to to say the new finger gestures are kind of happy, i love mission control and air drop is damn handy – launchpad mmm i don’t see the point and don’t like it but i suppose its going to blossom into something great!!!
I love the idea of when you download lion it ships with the latest update at that time so at this current time you will get 10.7.1 so comes with the 1st major update built in! certainly kicks the arse out of windows.
Im not sure if i like the new feature were it opens all my apps after a reboot or update, suppose some people like that i just don’t. I see they have added the full screen feature which I’ve used once and is something yes you don’t use all the time but when you do want to focus on a certain you can if its supports the full green focus, for instance i just updated firefox to the latest version and it hasn’t got the full screen capability yet……….
I like the new mail layout and wasn’t sure about the new look of the address book looking like a address book but its grown on me!!
the upgrade wrks well but i did clean installs anyway and left some disk space for time machine and configured just to back up my desktop and documents which has been working well for a incremental back up. The machine has been very responsive and i have had no crashing – lock ups or any problems at all. So far i give it my 100% – ten out of ten, there is no doubt in my mind the mac operating system is probably the most solid robust operating system around alongside linux.
Get a mac with lion on it don’t look back.
